Behaviour Policy

Introduction:

At Marlow Mentors we believe that rewarding good behaviour and providing encouragement to make sensible choices is vital.

Aims:

  • To promote teaching and learning through the building of good relationships based on mutual respect and consideration for others

  • To help pupils learn in a safe, happy and secure environment and become positive, responsible and independent

  • To reward good behaviour and provide encouragement and stimulation for all pupils

  • To treat all pupils fairly and apply this policy in a consistent way

  • To ensure that children are aware of the Golden Rules

  • To create, support and foster an environment that is happy, safe and secure and where effective learning can take place

  • To lead children towards high self-esteem and self-discipline which arises from good relationships and from setting expectations of good behaviour

Golden Rules:

  • Be respectful to other pupils and to tutors

  • Be kind to other pupils and to tutors

  • Be gentle - gentle words and deeds

  • Try your best

  • Be polite - put your hand up if you have a question or want to answer a question

  • Listen to others - listen to tutors and to what other pupils say and try not to interrupt

Clear Expectations:

The emphasis will always be on promoting good behaviour and we will draw attention to the Golden Rules to help pupils work in a framework of clear boundaries so they have an understanding of the expectations of Marlow Mentors.

Rewards:

  • Verbal praise

  • Stickers

  • End of term celebration with personalised certificates and reward ceremony for parents to watch

Sanctions:

  • Verbal warning

  • For more extreme behaviour a parent will be informed and a plan of action will be put in place taking into account the individual pupil’s needs and circumstances

Physical Intervention:

Tutors must only ever use physical intervention as a last resort, when a pupil is endangering himself or others, and that at all times it must be the minimal force necessary to prevent injury to another person. In cases where physical intervention takes place, parents will be informed on the same day or as soon as reasonably practicable.

Parental Involvement:

Parents have a vital role to play in their children’s education. It is very important that they support their child’s learning and co-operate with the Marlow Mentors. We are very conscious of the importance of having strong links with parents and good communication between parents and tutors. We will inform parents if we have any concerns about their child’s welfare or behaviour. We also ask all parents to make any concerns known.

In all areas of the Promotion of Good Behaviour, as set out in the UK Government Department for Education Equality Act 2010, reasonable adjustments will be made for pupils with special educational needs/disabilities.
